Norkienė is convinced that her parliamentary faction LVŽS will not support the proposal of the Seimas Board.
However, other faction elders interviewed by Elta welcome the Seimas Board’s proposal to remove the director of LGGRTC. They believe that the current holder A. Jakubauskas discredits the name of LGGRTC with his speeches and actions, so that he can no longer remain in the position of director of the center.
A. Norkienė: this is a political agreement, we will not support the proposal of the Seimas Board
A. Norkienė, the largest of the Lithuanian Green and Peasant Union (LVŽS) faction in the Seimas, does not hide that the urgent decision taken by the Seimas Board on Friday to propose to the Seimas to remove A. Jakubauskas from the current position is surprising.
“It is strange for us to have such a sudden solution. Because, as you know, a working group has been created, our delegates have been, I know they have expanded the working group until sometime in April, but then suddenly conclusions are drawn And the separate opinion of the members of our working group was not even attached to the documents when the dismissal decision was presented, ”A. Norkienė told Eltai.
Therefore, the elder of the LVŽS faction claims that the faction led by her will raise the question why the proposal of the Seimas Board to dismiss A. Jakubauskas is so urgent. A. Norkienė believes that this is a political deal with the director of the center A. Jakubauskas.
“We think that, perhaps, he is not afraid of that word, probably a political agreement. Because it is strange when part of the employees apply to the Seimas and thus they react very quickly by making a favorable decision for them, but without taking into account most of the employees (LGGRTC) ”, he said.
A. Norkienė is convinced that the director of LGGRTC works at the center for a short period of time to consider his dismissal.
“We really do not believe that now is the time for the manager to work alone for a good half year, to change him to solve a big visible problem, and for others the normal start of the new manager’s job,” A .Norkienė said.
“Since there has been a manager there for twenty years, it is natural that someone could face such resistance, etc., because each manager has his own style and the peculiarities of his work,” he added, emphasizing that LGGRTC should decide without the intervention of the Seimas.
Therefore, the senior of the LVŽS faction in the Seimas is convinced that the faction led by her will not support the proposal of the Seimas Board to dismiss A. Jakubauskas.
“It just came to our attention then. Yes, this is a secret ballot, we in the faction usually take free votes for personalities, but I think we will have a clearer decision here,” said A. Norkienė.
“I have not heard anyone doubt, or even consider agreeing. I would dare to say that everyone usually disagrees with this decision,” he also emphasized.
A. Sysas: in the LSDP faction “there are no great supporters of A. Jakubauskas”
For his part, Algirdas Sysas, the largest of the faction of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP) in the Seimas, affirms that the faction he leads has not yet discussed the proposal of the Seimas Board to remove the head of the LGGRTC. However, according to A. Sysas, there are not many supporters of the Social Democrats of the Seimas A. Jakubauskas.
“I do not know the opinion of other colleagues, but from what we have spoken, it is certainly not the big supporters of Mr. A. Jakubauskas who would support him in the masonry. But they can happen to each other, “he said.
Sys himself says that he will vote for the removal of the director of LGGRTC.

I. Pakarklytė: the centre’s activities are evidently discredited
Meanwhile, the representative of the Freedom Faction in the Seimas, Ieva Pakarklytė, also claims that the faction led by her has not yet managed to discuss the proposal of the Seimas Board to dismiss the director of LGGRTC. However, the parliamentarian points out that the activities of the center have recently been discredited due to the actions of the management.
“Recently, the activities of the center have been clearly discredited by all those that are developed in some way related to science and research, that is, the main activities of the center, unrelated incidents and things that really damage the reputation,” he said. .Pakarklytė.
“And, of course, the strange appearances of the director on Crimean Tatar television further complicate the issue and undermine the reputation of the institution precisely because of the speeches and actions of its director,” he also said.
E. Gentvilas: A. Jakubauskas’s interview with Crimean Tatar television: a tragedy
Eugenijus Gentvilas, the senior of the Liberal Movement faction in the Seimas, also affirms that this issue has not yet been discussed in the faction, but the parliamentarian himself does not hide his support for the proposal of the Seimas board.
“I don’t know all the arguments, but as a member of Seimas, I don’t want to have a center chief like that, who is starting to shout that politics is here,” said E. Gentvilas.
“And Vilnius University, the flagship of Lithuanian higher education, becomes guilty of something that for some reason A. Jakubauskas did not do the job, does not get rid of it and wants to overthrow it. Everyone is guilty, only, of course, he is a saint, ”he also emphasized.
The politician is also surprised by the statements of A. Jakubauskas on Crimean Tatar television.
“The interview with Crimean Tatar television is a tragedy. Instead of talking about his work, achievements or shortcomings, the man accuses some mystical forces of the left. (…) He begins to analyze the political situation in Lithuania and says that, unfortunately, these things come from the European Union. I don’t even know if it is because of Lithuania’s presence in the European Union, we could understand that not much, because from there very bad things come out that make him get up from his chair, that tragedy it’s that interview, ”said E. Gentvilas.
“This is probably a problem for LGGRTC, but now it is obvious that one of those problems is manager A. Jakubauskas,” the politician added.
R. Morkūnaitė-Mikulėnienė: A. Jakubauskas can no longer guarantee the proper functioning of the center
According to the conservative Radvilė Morkūnaitė-Mikulėnienė, head of the working group formed by the Seimas Board, which investigated the LGGRTC situation, there were administrative problems and the inability of the director to ensure the proper functioning of the center. According to the major of the faction of the Lithuanian Christian National-Democratic Union (TS-LKD) in the Seimas, this is the reason why the working group took the decision to request the removal of A. Jakubauskas from the Seimas Board. .
However, despite the fact that the elder of the conservative faction A. Jakubauskas has been repeatedly criticized, in the halls of the Seimas it is said that some members of the TS-LKD faction will not support the decision of the Seimas Board.
For his part, Vigilijus Jukna Eltai, the largest of the Labor Party faction in the Seimas, stated that he was not yet sufficiently familiar with the proposal presented by the Seimas Board and its arguments. According to him, the Labor Party faction will discuss the issue on Tuesday.
ELTA recalls that at the end of January the staff of the center approached the Spokesperson for Seimas, concerned about the actions of the LGGRTC leadership. The speech noted that LGGRTC employees are concerned about the underestimation of historical science, directing historical research in the direction of ideologization and politicization. It was noted that the LGGRTC leadership encourages the public to participate in the “defense of history” and the “wars of memory.”
Employees also expressed concern that the center has a tense emotional climate and that pressure from management is forcing experienced historians to leave their jobs. Indignation was also expressed by the director of LGGRTC A. Jakubauskas and Vidmantas Valiušaitis, senior adviser, journalist, publicist and book author who has already resigned. His competence to fill this position was questioned. After the tensions, V. Valiušaitis announced that he had resigned from his current position.
A. Jakubauskas was appointed director of the center in 2020 at the end of June.
