The “awakened” speedometer calculates the fines for the slightest overcoming: residents already receive dozens

According to Gražina Zizienė, the largest in the Riešė community, the speed limit on the section of the road monitored by the speedometer is 30 km / h. However, when hundreds of fines began to swim for community members, he realized that the preventive measure had not worked in all that time and the protocols for the infractions arrived too late.

“Nobody says not to send fines. We want people who offend to be punished. However, a speedometer does not have to be a device designed to collect fines: when an offender commits an infraction, they are warned, they receive a fine and they no longer commit those infractions. And the members of our community say that after the first or second fine they would be sanctioned and would not commit an infraction, but they immediately received between 70 and 100 fines. We can talk about this type of prevention, “said G Zizienė.

According to her, there was a stir in the community, as it was understood that all the prevention measures requested for many years simply did not work. After all, if they acted as they should, the tickets had to reach the offending drivers immediately.

“The most recent reports of fines are for infractions from a few days ago. Consequently, notifications may arrive within a week instead of half a year. Especially when nowadays the police officers no longer distribute those fines by hand ”, assured the interlocutor.

According to her, the situation is so absurd that people in Riešė wonder, not how they live, but how many fines they have received. Given the situation, the community approached the Ministry of the Interior and the Police Department to clarify whether the metrological verification of the meter had been carried out properly. It is suspected that it was calibrated with extreme sensitivity: most of the recipients said that the reports indicated that they had traveled 42-43 km / h. speed.

The letter sent not only asks whether the speedometer performs a preventive function, but also requests to arrange a meeting with the residents of Riešė and familiarize them with the operation of the device.

According to G. Zizienė, the first fines for crimes committed in October began to travel by mail on March 26. According to the interlocutor, hundreds of messages should reach not only neighbors, but also company employees, couriers, etc. that habitually travel this road.

“Imagine a situation where people drive through meters on a daily basis in the city, they haven’t received a single lifetime speeding ticket and suddenly 18 tickets for violations. These people say that even after the first report a misdemeanor, they would have disciplined themselves and driven more slowly. Throughout the weekend, most of the young people called me and reassured me that they wouldn’t even have to pay the fines that came at any given time. After all, They have been given a deadline to pay on time, ”said the old man.

According to the Road Traffic Regulations (KET), this speeding carries a fine of 12-30 euros.

Comment from the Lithuanian Highway Administration (LAKD) and the police will be added.
