On Tuesday, after the presentation, the parliamentarians approved the amendment to the Labor Code presented by Arūnas Gumuliauskas, president of the Seimas Commission for the Struggle for Freedom and the Historical Memory of the State, proposing January 13. add to vacation list. 49 Seimas members voted in favor, no one was against, 5 deputies abstained.

However, the fate of the new holiday will depend on the conclusions of the Tripartite Council and the Government, since the Seimas approved the proposal of the Social Democratic parliamentarian Algirdas Sysas to ask for his opinion.

Some Seimas members have tried to find out if they will not intend to remove a holiday, such as May 1, from the list of days off. “There is no market exchange here, from one day to the next,” said A. Gumuliauskas.

He also proposed to amend the Remembrance Days Act by removing Freedom Defenders Day from the Remembrance Days list.

Under current Labor Code, January 13, Freedom Defenders Day, is not a holiday.
