According to the Department of Environmental Protection, after receiving the report from residents about the pollution of the Kruoja River in Pakruojis, the inspectors went to the specified location.
Potential oil products have been found to flow into the river from the urban wastewater system.
The summoned firefighters fenced off the contamination site with hood barriers, thus stopping the spread of contaminants. The pollutants are collected and neutralized on Thursday night.
Authorities found that the pollutants had entered the river from private property and stopped. The resident will be given a mandatory instruction to remove the contaminated soil, the damage will be calculated.
According to the department, the municipality will have to clean the sewer routes.
Continuing with the investigation, the environmentalists also asked the UAB Šiaulių vandenys for help: their robot was trying to determine the source of contamination.
The Environmental Protection Agency laboratory specialists have taken samples of the contaminants, a test will be performed, and the composition of the contaminants will be determined. It is suspected that lubricants may have entered Kruoja.
