“Once again, I want to make sure that these officials do not affect freedom of expression in any way, do not engage in censorship,” Požėla confirmed in a discussion on the performance of the police on Thursday.

“They will only react to crimes that are clearly being committed and are prepared to be committed in cyberspace,” he added.

Earlier it was announced that three specially trained officers will be on duty to patrol the public Internet space.

As the Commissioner General said, that role is already in place.

“Users of social networks do not see this, but many administrative cases related to insults and insults to honor and dignity are considered in court, even pre-trial investigations are initiated,” explained R. Požėla. – We are talking about a patrol of the elementary public police that patrols public places, approaches, warns, sometimes with its fingers, sometimes says a pleasant word. In essence, the same model moves where problems are boiling: cyberspace. ”

According to him, in the face of obvious violations of the law there will be a reaction, moving away from emotions, evaluations and subjective things.

“We are talking about the requirements of the law and its violations. For example, selling vaccines, which is prohibited, offering to buy medicines, obvious insults to another person with bad words,” said R. Požėla.

The agents are expected to monitor the electronic space 24 hours a day, and in case of picking up inappropriate messages or comments, the virtual patrol will react – a police icon will appear next to a particular commentator and the public and an announced message will be issued which is illegal and should be stopped.

“The goal is to fight sexual, racial and hate crimes,” he said.
