“I want to rejoice that we meet one of the most important days for Belarus with the President of the Belarusian people. We remember how many freedom struggles our two countries have already fought. Therefore, it is not surprising that once again Lithuania, which is already a free state, is fighting together with Belarus for the freedom of the Belarusian people, ”said G. Landsbergis.
“We cannot say anything new to the Lukashenko regime: pack things up and empower the people. And I wish people patience, because that’s the hardest part of fighting for victory.
That victory may not come tomorrow, so be patient, determined, don’t let it go, ”he wished the people of Belarus.
Speaking of the sanctions imposed on representatives of the Belarusian regime, the minister said that this was a decision of the three Baltic states and that there could be more soon.
“As far as I know, a fourth package of sanctions is currently being negotiated, which involves both natural and legal persons. To that extent, I probably do not expect the EU as a whole to agree, but there are other different instruments and sanctions” Landsberg said.
S.Cichanouskaya said that this year Independence Day has a new meaning for Belarus.
“This is a very important day for the people of Belarus. This year is particularly important this year because we are on a difficult road towards the struggle for democracy. Today, many people are arrested on the streets of Belarus, but people it does not surrender. The regime does not understand that the people are determined to fight for their country to the end, “said the Belarusian opposition leader.
According to her, the sanctions imposed on the regime are a very strong message, and when asked if it is realistic to have new presidential elections already in September, she assured that they will indeed take place.
“It just came to our notice then. We want a peaceful solution to this crisis. Our goal is a new election in September, and we will do everything possible to make this happen,” he said.
He also said that further mass demonstrations could be expected in Belarus, although the form of the protests had recently changed due to the repression of the regime.
“Due to the repression, the people have changed the form of the protests, but we will definitely see massive demonstrations, as we saw last August and September, because the people want new elections, a new country,” Chichanouskaya said.
Minister G. Landsbergis and S.Cichanouskaya laid a wreath at the Race cemetery in the chapel where the participants of the 1863 uprising and its leader Konstantin Kalinauskas were buried, as well as at the graves of the Prime Minister of Belarus of 1918 and Father “Belarusian” “Anton Luckiewicz and his brother Ivan.
Another 118 members of the Belarusian regime were added to the sanctions lists
On Thursday, the Foreign Ministry announced that Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia have added another 118 representatives of the Belarusian regime to national sanctions lists, and will be banned from entering the Baltic countries.
“Lithuania, along with Estonia and Latvia, stands in solidarity with the people of Belarus who are fighting for their freedom. The favorites of the regime must realize that the response to the brutal use of force against the peaceful population will be very tough and unambiguous. Lithuania will certainly not be left out, “Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis said in a press release.
According to the ministry, the list of sanctioned persons includes those who work in the structures of the Belarusian internal affairs system and contributed directly or indirectly to the falsification of the results of the presidential elections of August 9, the repression of the democratic opposition and civil society, serious and systematic violations of human rights.

“Belarus is fighting for its independence, it is a long and difficult road, but I have no doubt that the people of Belarus will achieve their goal. For our part, we condemn the actions of those people who, in their power and authority, use it. towards their fellow citizens, ”said Interior Minister Agnė Bilotaitė.
In Belarus itself, Independence Day on March 25 is not officially celebrated. On this day, the Belarusian Democratic Republic was proclaimed in 1918, but it existed until early 1919, when the Bolsheviks took power in the country.
The Aliaksandr Lukashenko regime prohibits the celebration of this day in Belarus, does not recognize it, since July 3 is the day of the independence of Belarus, when in 1944 the Nazi German army withdrew from Minsk and was occupied by the army Soviet.
