“This weekend (…), without violating public order, we will implement the decision to vaccinate all those who wish to do so, but 65 years or older and belonging to all those groups, which are defined in the order of the Minister. From Saturday to Sunday, there will be a full day opportunity for those who did not have such opportunities or did not find them, if there were such cases, ”Klaipėda City Mayor Vytautas Grubliauskas told BNS.

“But with a very clear attitude: we are talking about AstraZeneca,” emphasized the mayor.

According to him, this decision was made because the population chooses other vaccines, and after vaccination, it is the residue of AstraZeneca that remains.

“It is not the case that the vaccines are in Klaipėda, they are in drawers and several people are waiting for vaccines; this is definitely not the case. On the contrary, especially on weekends, the staff involved in vaccination have many vacancies and that is the deciding factor for AstraZeneca, ”said the mayor.

“There is such an easy paradox: there are vaccines, vaccines are waiting their turn and there is no shoulder to inject,” he added.

According to the Statistics Department, 150 people were vaccinated with the first dose in Klaipeda on Monday and 314 on Tuesday.

The AstraZeneca vaccine was given to several dozen people each, while the other two vaccines were given in the first dose on Tuesday, 1,500 people.

On Tuesday, the AstraZeneca vaccine was also vaccinated in the Širvintos district municipality. On its page it was announced that people over 65 can come to be vaccinated with this vaccine without prior registration. Data from the Department of Statistics show that the largest number of people in the municipality have been vaccinated with the first dose so far – 108, the absolute majority – AstraZeneca.
