In Šiauliai, it was decided to start vaccinating police officers with the AstraZeneca vaccine.
Such a decision was made by the Mayor of Šiauliai City, Artūras Vicockas, after consulting with the Chief of the Šiauliai County Main Police Station (AVPK) Ramūnas Sarapas and General Police Commissioner Renatas Požėla.
“The vaccine can be administered to people over 65 years of age and to those who perform the tasks necessary for society. Police officers fall into this category, ”said the city chief, who turned on the green light for the vaccination of police officers in Šiauliai.
According to A.Visockas, the vaccination of the policemen is already delayed: “We must understand that the vaccination of the policemen is necessary not only to protect themselves from the disease, but also for the people with whom they interact. The police are in real contact with a lot of people, they come home after work. This means that the safety of police officers depends not only on their own safety, that of their loved ones, but also on the safety of a large number of citizens. “
The mayor of Šiauliai said that after vaccinating the police officers with the vaccine, the vaccination of gym teachers should be started.
“Lessons in Šiauliai city schools were interrupted earlier than in other cities. Graduates should already prepare for the exams. Therefore, the safety of gym teachers is not only important to control the spread of the virus, vaccinating these teachers would allow graduates to prepare for the exams that await them without much stress, ”said A. Visockas.
The head of Šiauliai AVPK R. Sarapas said that he evaluated the vaccination of police officers started in Šiauliai only positively.
“A safe officer is a safe community. Also, by vaccinating with the AstraZeneca vaccine, police officers, like the country’s leaders, should, in a sense, help dispel doubts about the safety of this vaccine,” Sarap said .
The first 50 police officers were vaccinated at the Šiauliai vaccination center on Wednesday. A hundred more police officers will be vaccinated here on Friday.
More than 500 police officers work in the city and district of Šiauliai.
