The new presidential elections of the Lithuanian Basketball Federation will take place at the end of summer.
Lrytas.lt journalist Laurynas Rybakas announced on Tuesday that R. Javtokas has decided to run for the position and will offer the position of vice presidents to two well-known men from the country: Jonas Kazlauskas and E.Jakilaitis.
E.Jakilaitis shared his thoughts on this in a Facebook post.
“I was not very interested in the affairs of the basketball federation. I read that the term of Arvydas Sabonis, who is clearly best suited to represent Lithuanian basketball, is coming to an end, and perhaps some more superficial things about this organization. I have no friends there, much less friends.
When Robert Javtok, who came to work a few weeks ago, asked me if I would agree to be vice president of the Basketball Federation if he were elected president, I was more than surprised.
He then said that Jonas Kazlauskas would be respected as the next vice president, outlined his vision and outlined my responsibilities: increase transparency, open myself to the public, build a working relationship with the media and society based on mutual respect, I began to consider, and after a while I accepted.
I never thought that I would be involved in basketball in any way in my activities, but what can I know?
This is far from being a fact.
And the position of vice president is public, that is, unpaid and, I hope, it would not take up much time.
It is true that this may be a good opportunity to return to Kaunas more often.
