Apply for the vacant post of diplomatic agent.

After the internal selection procedures, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will coordinate the candidacies of the diplomatic representatives with the Seimas Foreign Relations Commission, subsequently the Government will consider the Government’s proposal to appoint a diplomatic representative.

Asta Skaisgirytė, Advisor to the President on Foreign Policy, said last week that the President had agreed with the Government and Seimas on the nomination of three ambassadors and was awaiting proposals for seven more posts.

According to her, they have reconciled with the ambassadors of the United States, the Council of Europe and the “post that will later become vacant in New York.”

According to SNB sources, diplomat Audra Plepytė is proposed as Lithuanian ambassador to the United States.

President Gitanas Nausėda had previously confirmed that he wanted to see Vygandas Jankūnas, a member of the European Commission, as ambassador to the European Union, who assisted him during the presidential election campaign.

The ambassador’s question received a lot of attention after the president’s decision not to appoint former ministers Raimundas Karoblis and Linas Linkevičius as Lithuanian ambassadors in Brussels and Washington, saying they needed a political cooldown.
