The National Defense Ministry informed BNS this week that the design and construction of the camp is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.
The final installation of the camp is scheduled for the first quarter of 2022.
The Herkus camp will have places to sleep and work for the soldiers, as well as sports, leisure and catering facilities.
The installation of the facility is funded from the state budget, but the price and size of the camp is not disclosed.
“The information on the specific capacity of the camp and its price is for official use, so we cannot provide it,” the ministry said.
According to her, if necessary, the camp will be used to house other allied troops.
The government’s action plan foresees “the creation of the necessary infrastructure for the movement of US forces to Lithuania, as well as for their permanent deployment and training in Lithuania.”
Camp Herkus is the main object being developed for this purpose.
