“Christmas trees in Vilnius are returning to nature. It is very interesting to imagine what this forest will be like in 30 years, when we can come here with our children to admire adult firs and spruces, ”said Vilnius Mayor Remigijus Šimašius after planting the Christmas tree.

According to the mayor, Vilnius residents are very conscientious, that’s why this idea was born. Several people responded: from morning to noon, about 20 Christmas trees have already been planted.

According to the forester Raimundas Ereminas, after planting conifers directly, it is important to compact the soil well so that there are no air spaces, it is also important to water well.

The frost is gone, the soil is now wet, so it’s time to rush to plant conifers. You can bravely go to the Christmas forest for the entire next week, according to the Vilnius municipality report. Of course, not all Christmas trees will come, but you have to give it a try. The public institution Vilnius City Parks on the territory of the Verkiai Regional Park, near the Verkiai Palace, prepared places for the first seedlings and marked them with stakes.

Raimonda Radžiūnienė, head of the Pavilniai and Verkiai Regional Park Directorate, said that until now there was an ugly abandoned space here, which had to be managed by restoring it to a natural meadow, cutting, and until a real forest is formed, the staff the park will take care of it.

After planting the Christmas tree, the Vilnius people said they promised to keep visiting the Christmas forest, trying to remember the place to plant their own Christmas tree.

Before preparing to arrive, you should assess the condition of your Christmas tree yourself: if the needles are badly damaged, it is no longer worth planting, the municipality warns. If the Christmas tree appears viable, it should be watered more intensively in the last week before planting to allow the plant to regain its lost moisture balance.
