We lost director Peter Bingel last year. He was also a member of the Kaunas Council, belonging to the faction of the Lithuanian Christian National-Democratic Union (TS-LKD). However, his seat is still vacant, so the opposition has one less vote.
There are only eight representatives of the Kaunas opposition in the city council during this period, so their voice is less heard. After the death of Master P. Bingelis in December last year, the vote of the TS-LKD faction was further reduced, as a new council member had not yet sworn in.
The Central Election Commission points out that P. Bingelis should be replaced in the Kaunas City Council by Jonas Banys, who remains behind the so-called script. However, according to Kauno Diena, he is currently abroad, so he cannot take an oath live, and there is no possibility to swear from a distance, because it is not provided for by law.
“He works abroad and cannot come due to work and quarantine. We have spoken with him about when he could return to Lithuania and take the oath as soon as possible, but this is the situation now. I cannot answer for him if he will be able to reconcile work. abroad and in the city I still don’t know who will be able to swear in the next council meeting, but we want everything to be resolved as soon as possible, because our goal is for the group to work to its full potential and against the voters “, commented Edita Gudišauskienė , the oldest of the TS-LKD faction.
I cannot answer for him if he will be able to reconcile work abroad and in the city hall.
He noted that each group member on the council is divided on the job and represents the electorate on various committees. However, when J. Banys takes the oath, there may be rotations between commissions and committees, because they will look for who can know better one or another area.
“Professor P. Bingelis worked on the Education and Culture Committee, then after J. Banis’ swearing in, we will decide if he has the competence to work on this committee. We will discuss with the faction members, there may be changes. E. Gudišauskienė pointed out.
The next Kaunas Council meeting will take place on March 23rd.
