S. Valentinavičius was born in 1939. January 3 In Šiauliai, later he moved to Šiluva. The family of the Lithuanian officer Jonas Žemaitis-Vytautas lived in the same house during the German occupation together with the family of Valentinavičius. Their children played together and ran around the backyard of the house. Šarūnas’ father was the head of the train station during the time of Lithuania’s independence, and his mother was a partisan liaison after the Soviet invasion.

The Šarūnas family did not have a quiet life, hidden from exile, according to an obituary sent to Elta by the Lithuanian Union of Freedom Fighters. When Šarūnas was 10 years old, his parents moved to Kretinga and then to Kaunas. Beautiful 1961 Šarūnas graduated from the Lithuanian Veterinary Academy and acquired the specialty of veterinarian. Initially he worked as a veterinarian in the Raseiniai district, later in Zoovettiekime and, since 1970, as the chief veterinarian of the Horticulture and Beekeeping Fund of the Ministry of Agriculture.

Since 1982, with an innate gift of journalism, he changed his work profile and began working as a journalist. He worked on this play until 2000. Initially, he worked as a press representative for Lithuanian television, Vilnius City Municipality and Valstiečių laikraštis. In addition, he collaborated with the Lithuanian-American “third wave of emigrants” in the weekly “Infotiltas”, where he prepared comments and a political-economic review of events in Lithuania. While working in the LRT, at the beginning of the Renaissance, he presented the show “Atgimimo banga” for some time, and after its abolition, he organized the “Live Revival Wave” on the hill of those who died on January 13.

He led the Vilnius Sąjūdis for several years. When “perestroika” began, they tried to show in their programs the disorder in the kolkhoz, the abuse of the power of time, theft, looting and not reading with the kolkhoz. After the rebirth of Lithuania, many remember his sharp spectacles, in which he revealed the struggle of the “old Soviet guard” against farmers, against private property, the problem of returning land to farmers.

Šarūnas continued his reporting and became an active member of the Lithuanian Freedom Fighters Union until his death.

“He was preparing to commemorate with us the 80th anniversary of the June 1941 uprising, he fought on all fronts to build a monument in Vilnius Lukiškės Square to those who fought for centuries and died for the freedom of Lithuania with the Vytis symbol, prepared with great joy a report of Kryžkalnis killed in battles with Soviet occupiers and collaborators. The archives of material filmed by Šarūnas Valentinavičius contain a number of valuable materials that will have lasting historical value and must therefore be specially protected for future generations. ” writes the obituary for the Lithuanian Union of Freedom Fighters.

S. Valentinavičius was orderly, attentive in all his work, a good father who loves his family, his companions write. Together with Giedre, he raised two children, Ara and Rytis, and has three grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Besides family, he also had a second love: LITHUANIA. He always hoped and believed that Lithuania would free itself from the shackles of Soviet heritage.
