How Delphi Said Andrius Mazuronis, a member of the Labor faction, the group already approved today the signing of an opposition agreement with the peasants.

“It just came to our knowledge then. The harmonized text is already there, we have agreed it in the group today, tonight there will be a meeting of the party council, the issue will be discussed there,” said the parliamentarian.

According to him, the agreement is expected to be signed next week.

“If everyone agrees, it’s just a matter of signing. I think it’s realistic to sign next week, if at all. additional “It will not happen, because that negotiation process is over, everything has been discussed roughly,” said A. Mazuronis.

According to the politician, the Social Democrats, who also work in the Seimas opposition, will not yet officially join the agreement.

“They come, they listen – to set the agenda, to support each other in the opposition.” They participate in those talks everywhere, but they do not formally join the agreement, at least until they have a party president, “the employee emphasized.

Saulius Skvernelis, a member of the peasant faction, also confirmed the news about the opposition’s plans.

“Today we will debate in the group.” If the faction agrees, your faction and the council agree, then we will probably make that decision next week, “A. Skvernelis confirmed the words of A. Mazuronis.

According to him, the opposition leader will change on a rotating basis.

“The group will decide. It will be rotated by agreement: we will be there, they, we will have them. According to the proportions, five sessions are ours, three of them”, – explained the parliamentarian.

Mr Skvernel also confirmed that the Social Democrats would continue to participate in informal opposition meetings.

“Naturally, their position, which they expressed, is respectable; when the party leadership is formed, then it will be possible to speak,” said the Seimas member.

When asked if he would take the initiative as leader of the opposition, Skvernel replied that it was up to the faction.

“If there is support in the group, I will take it. If not, he will find someone else. There are definitely no problems,” he emphasized.

For his part, Algirdas Sys, the largest of the faction of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party, also confirmed that the Social Democrats would not yet officially join the opposition agreement.

“We immediately said that until we have a new party president, there will be no such solution, and if he is elected, then there will be a debate and a decision on the best way to work here: whether to be a constructive opposition and to work separately without a formal agreement between workers and peasants. Time will tell, “said Sys.

“We cooperate, we speak, we speak, we exchange opinions. There is cooperation, only it is not formalized and will not be formalized yet, at least until the election of the president,” added the eldest of the group.

Although all opposition forces doubt that a consensus will be reached immediately after the 2020 Seimas elections, last week the peasant president of the ELTA news agency, Ramūnas Karbauskis, confirmed that such plans are realistic. He said LVŽS would appoint former Prime Minister S. Skvernelis as leader of the opposition.
