“Lithuania is not aiming to buy Sputnik vaccines, we rely on vaccines that are tested and produced by Western companies,” said G. Landsbergis.
He said a positive decision from the European Medicines Agency (EMA) was expected, which would restore confidence and allow resumption of vaccination with AstraZeneca vaccines.
“We are looking forward to EVA’s decision on AstraZeneca. We hope that vaccination with these vaccines will resume. We are confident that the necessary tests will pass and questions will be answered, trust will be restored,” said G. Landsbergis at the press conference of the Foreign Ministers of Germany and Lithuania.
Meanwhile, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said the EEA’s findings should be awaited before a decision is made on Sputnik V vaccines.
“Sputnik is subject to the same rules as other vaccines. We will have to wait for EVA’s conclusions,” Heiko Maas told a news conference.
However, he stressed that Germany still has enough vaccines and that increased production will allow vaccines to be offered to most Germans by the end of September.
“We will have increased vaccine production in the coming months, so there should be enough vaccines ordered in the European Union in April and July. According to our government plan, we should offer vaccines to all Germans by the end of September. We already have the vaccines, ”said the German Chancellor.
Landsberg paid a working visit to the German capital Berlin on Wednesday. During the meeting with German Chancellor Heiko Maas, the bilateral relations between Lithuania and Germany, relations with Russia and China, the situation in the Eastern Neighborhood, the security situation in the region and other relevant issues on the international agenda were discussed.
