“At the moment, the quarantine order is valid until March 31, but I have no doubt that it will be necessary to extend the quarantine. The conditions will largely depend on how the situation will look these weeks. Based on what we are seeing now in part of Lithuania, there is really no reason for great optimism, ”the Prime Minister told LRT radio on Tuesday.

According to the Prime Minister, if the epidemiological situation does not change, it is intended to consider different quarantine restrictions based on the epidemiological indicators of the municipalities.

“There are municipalities where the situation is much better. If it does not get worse, I think that in those municipalities it will be freer in terms of Easter restrictions, but it would be simply irresponsible for me to promise something today ”, he emphasized.

I. Šimonytė also stated that the epidemiological situation and quarantine restrictions in the country may be affected by the planned resumption of contact education for primary school children.

Given that there are plans to admit at least the youngest students to contact education next week, it is already true that most coronavirus research shows a very clear link between the opening and closing of educational institutions and the dynamics of the virus. . . That is why we have to be very attentive. Everything will largely depend on the intensity with which the municipalities within their borders strive to reduce or at least not increase the number of cases, ”said the Prime Minister.

Universal quarantine was introduced in Lithuania from November 7. The new government, following the recommendations of the experts, has decided to toughen the quarantine as of December 16.

As of February 15, small shops, beauty services and open-air commerce were allowed to resume operations.

The quarantine regime is currently valid until March 31 inclusive.
