National Defense and Environment Ministers Arvydas Anušauskas and Simonas Gentvilas agreed on this, the Environment Ministry announced on Monday.

The National Defense Ministry will announce a new feasibility study contest at the end of April to search for landfill alternatives.

According to the report, taking into account requests from the municipalities of Telšiai, Mažeikiai, Šiauliai, Akmenė, Kelmė and their communities, the ministers agreed to review the Lithuanian master plan solution in order to conduct a feasibility study and need for a new military training ground. and military training areas throughout Lithuania.

“The new Lithuanian Armed Forces training ground remains a project of national importance, because the modernized Lithuanian Armed Forces, as well as the NATO-allied troops stationed in our country and coming to the exercise, need more space for the military training, “said A .Anušauskas.

At the end of March, the Lithuanian Armed Forces intend to prepare a military study, according to which a technical specification of the feasibility study for the installation of new land on the ground will be drawn up. This document will identify the data required to describe the service: the area under consideration, the area of the planned area, the physical data of the planned area, compliance with military activities and other requirements to achieve the result.

It was considered that there was a new landfill in the northern area between Kuršėnai and Telšiai. It would have covered a part of the districts of Telšiai, Mažeikiai, Akmenė, Šiauliai. However, some locals began to protest against such plans, concerned about the expropriation of agricultural land.

On February 1, the Ministry of National Defense (MoD) announced the revocation of reserved territories for a military training camp in western Lithuania.

“It was established that due to the totality of natural characteristics of these areas, the identified territories do not satisfy the needs of the army to organize complex military exercises. For this reason, the Ministry of National Defense presented a request to the Ministry of the Environment to cancel the reservation of the territories contemplated in the feasibility study, ”the Ministry of National Defense affirmed at the time.

A new training ground is needed for the Lithuanian Armed Forces in order to ensure adequate conditions for the training of Lithuanian soldiers and NATO allies.

Lithuania’s largest landfills are Pabradė and Gaižiūnai, but with the strengthening of the Lithuanian Armed Forces and the increasing number of allied troops, they are becoming insufficient and development is practically impossible.
