J.Mačiulis, originally from the Raseiniai district, spent almost the last four decades in Karmėlava, raising his daughter Jūratė and son Jonas together with his wife Maryte.
The latter is a well-known national basketball player who defends the honor of the Lithuanian team. The news of his father’s death has reached J.Mačiulis in Greece, currently Karmėlaviškis is competing for the AEK club in Athens.
J.Mačiulis has been actively following his son’s career the entire time, watching his game at the Olympics. Sports, fishing, and time in nature were the foresters’ greatest hobbies.
J.Mačiulis died suddenly when he and his wife Maryte went to a farm in the Raseiniai district. It is believed that he had a heart attack.
Since 2015, according to the list of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party, J.Mačiulis has been elected to the Kaunas District Council and not a single meeting has been missed.
“This man dedicated himself to Lithuania, the Kaunas district and its people. He believed in the ideals of freedom and defended them sincerely, ”said Kaunas District Mayor Valerijus Makūnas, after learning of his partner’s death.
According to the mayor, J.Mačiulis was a man of extremely high internal culture and took a very responsible look at his duties as a forester in the Karmėlava forest district and in the district council.
“It was his greatest pleasure planting trees, transporting charity to children from low-income families, organizing community events,” said V. Makūnas.
The death of J.Mačiulis is a painful loss for the entire Karmėlava community, who loved and respected this person immensely.
