Three Dutch soldiers were washing their vehicles at a car wash on Sodų Street when they heard a motorcycle approaching at high speed. After a moment on February 16th Street, as they turned onto Sodų Street, a motorcycle and a Fiat car collided. The motorcyclist crossed the hood of the car and landed a few meters from the road.
Without hesitation, the Dutch soldiers immediately ran towards the accident and immediately provided first aid to the motorcyclist and supervised the driver of the car. Soldiers also guarded the area, dealt with heavy traffic, and asked passersby to call emergency response units. Two soldiers from the German contingent from the NATO Front Forces Combat Group, who arrived at the scene shortly, helped monitor traffic, put traffic lights on the road and divert traffic, the National Defense Ministry said.
The soldiers informed the police about the situation and turned the victim over to the arriving doctors, who were taken to the hospital in Kaunas by ambulance for further investigation. After all this, colleagues from the Netherlands helped to monitor traffic again and police officers were able to carry out the investigation safely.
The firefighters who arrived at the scene, along with the Dutch soldiers, were in charge of cleaning the road. After the incident, police officers, some bystanders, and the injured driver of the car thanked the soldiers of the NATO Front Forces Combat Group for this noble act and the operational assistance provided.
