“Our bill speaks to the fact that by the end of November 2024 we would see that commercial fishing should be withdrawn from the Curonian Lagoon with certain exceptions. Commercial fishing should leave the inland waters, ie lakes and rivers, by summer 2022. We only leave the specialized fishing in the lakes – during the traditional holidays from the ice, pulling the “bob”. This is a completely ancient method related to heritage, ”A. Gedvilienė told Eltai.
“As for the Curonian lagoon, we plan to leave the specialized ice fishing to melt with melted nets and traps. The rest of the fishing will not be possible in the Curonian lagoon from the end of 2024, ”said A. Gedvilienė.
According to her, due to the cultural heritage, she will propose to leave the lamprey fishing with the traditional kissing tool. It would also be possible to fish in polders commercially.
According to A. Gedvilienė, naturalists and scientists agree that the quality of fishery resources in inland waters is not good enough.
“First of all, it is important to know that naturalists and scientists agree that the quality of fish stocks in inland waters is not good enough. In the European Union (EU), we are seeing an increasing influence in recreational fishermen. Recreational fishing in the EU generates around 84 thousand. 8.5 billion jobs are generated per year. I believe that Lithuania is following the path and in this way the fishing resources will be much better protected “, said A. Gedvilienė.
According to the head of the Seimas committee, compensation will also be provided to fishermen and entrepreneurs, which are mandatory if the farm branch is closed.
