The Belarusian operator’s letter requests to coordinate the disconnection and connection of the four 330 kV lines connecting the Lithuanian and Belarusian electrical systems from April 5 to 11 due to ongoing attempts.

The letter indicates that tests of the Belarusian electrical system will be carried out to assess the reliability of the Belarusian electrical system “taking into account the planned output of the Baltic electrical systems” from the IPS / UPS system (BRELL ring) and “the expected commissioning march of the Belarus nuclear power plant “.

Litgrid and other Baltic transmission network operators are requested to submit an evaluation of the proposed plan by March 26.

Litgrid notes that countries that normally operate on the BRELL ring (Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Russia and Belarus) inform other operators about planned tests of this type in advance, six months or more in advance.

Energy Minister Dainius Kreivys, who is currently visiting Poland, declares that Belarus’ decisions only once again testify to the need for full energy independence.

“We need to speed up the synchronization of our power grids with Western European grids. The Belarusian side’s decision is unexpected, but we are calmly preparing for this event at the moment. Unfortunately, such surprises are possible while we are still in the ring. of BRELL, ”says D. Kreivys in the report.

Rokas Masiulis, CEO of Litgrid, affirms that the company is prepared to guarantee the reliability of the electrical system both with internal resources and using the connections of the Baltic countries with Poland and Scandinavia.

“Currently, we have already started the analysis of the system flows, which will help to fulfill the planned tests with confidence,” says R. Masiulis.

Litgrid informed the Ministry of Energy about the letter received. An inter-agency meeting is scheduled for Monday at the Energy Ministry to present preparations for the planned trials in Belarus. The situation will also be discussed at a BEMIP meeting on Wednesday.
