According to the representative of the Prosecutor General’s Office Rita Stundienė, the car accident took place last Friday night to Saturday, at approximately 1 o’clock at night, in the city of Šventežeris, Lazdijai district.
According to preliminary data, the car could have significantly exceeded the speed limit of 70 km / h allowed there.
Data collected by senior police officers shows that 18-year-old L. Grubis, who was riding a BMW scooter, was prevented from driving in the same direction, from Alytus’ direction to Lazdijai.
During the collision, the blow was so strong that not only the residents of the city of Šventežeris, but also the police officers, gathered at the scene of the accident, stopped the tears when they saw how seriously injured the student was.
The BMW driver escaped the scene, but just a few hundred meters from the crash site, an uncontrolled vehicle flew into a ditch on the side of the road and overturned.
Police officers who rushed to the scene found two young men in the overturned BMW: T. Jančiūnas and Laurynas S. de Lazdijai, who did not indicate which of them was driving a BMW.
This became clear only on Sunday, after a judicial questioning about the preventive detention measure. According to preliminary data, T. Jančiūnas was sitting behind the wheel of the BMW during the accident.
Immediately after the car accident, the drunkenness of the young detainees was determined: T. Jančiūnas – 2.31 per thousand, for a passenger – 1.43 per thousand.
Laurynas S., a witness to the accident, was released after questioning by the police, and was detained.
On Sunday, the court allowed T. Jančiūnas to be arrested for 14 days.
A pre-trial investigation has been initiated at the Kaunas District Alytus District Prosecutor’s Office, pursuant to Article 281 of the Penal Code. Paragraph 6: violation of road safety regulations or vehicle operation.
For this type of crime, the law provides prison terms of 3 to 10 years.
The tragedy of the weekend caused a great resonance in the community of the Lazdijai district. The late L. Grubis was a young marksman from the Lithuanian Fusiliers Union, an active member of the school community.
Social media is full of condolences to his family, friends, classmates.
Meanwhile, the suspect describes himself as a driver with a road cock tag. But prosecutor Lina Eviltienė, who is leading the case, says she has no data yet on whether the 21-year-old boy had previously been punished by officials.
It is still unclear when it will be possible to say goodbye to a tragically killed high school student. According to the prosecutor, forensic medical experts had not yet completed the final examination of the remains on Monday morning.
