Violeta Bartušienė, prosecutor of the Organized Crime and Corruption Investigation Division of the Šiauliai Regional Prosecutor’s Office, who is leading this pre-trial investigation, filed a request with the court in late May, requesting the arrest of Raseini residents of 31, 36 and 38 years for three months. According to the prosecutor, suspects, while generally hiding from pre-trial investigative officers, the prosecutor, or the court, may obstruct proceedings or commit new crimes. On May 30, the court granted the prosecutor’s request and detained the suspects for a maximum period.

Men who have not dealt with the police in the past face ten to fifteen years imprisonment for unlawful possession of large amounts of psychotropic substances.

After receiving information about the production and distribution of psychotropic substances in Raseiniai, officials from the Šiauliai County Police Organized Crime Board promised to inspect it and, after a thorough and professional investigation, organized a detention operation to suspects on May 29.

The first to be arrested was a 31-year-old man who was driving a car in Raseiniai, Sporto St., from a garage where psychotropic substances were stored. A carefully wrapped package containing approximately 1,000 tablets was found in the detainee’s pocket (the amount will be clarified by specialists after the study). Drunkenness was detected both in the car he was driving and in the garage. A total of approximately 200 kg of suspected amphetamine and other psychotropic substances and three barrels of substances used in the manufacture of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances were taken in packages and bags.

Searches of the detainee’s accomplices were also carried out. In the Raseiniai district, in the village of Gruzdiškės, on the 38-year-old suspect, forensic scientists found a large number of various forms (liquid and bulk) of substances and diluents suspected of being used for drug production. Additionally, an illegally held firearm, a revolver with 5 rounds in the drum, was found in the farm building.

At the residence of a 36-year-old accomplice in the village of Paalsis, in an agricultural building, forensic scientists found what is believed to be the main laboratory for the production of psychotropic substances. It was rich in scales, flasks, beakers, and other containers, various forms of chemicals used in the production of detergents.

While continuing to work, officers found a car with hiding places to transport psychotropic substances and drugs in the territory of the 31-year-old suspect’s father. And it also contained waste from the process of producing psychotropic substances, liquids that manufacturers needed to dispose of. It was not done to do so, since forensic scientists blocked its entry into the environment.

All three suspects were charged with unlawful possession of large quantities of psychotropic substances, and the 38-year-old suspect was also charged with unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
