1990 On March 11, the Supreme-Restorative Council of the Seimas adopted the Law “On Restoration of the Independent State of Lithuania”. 124 deputies voted in favor of this law, 6 deputies abstained. By this act, the Supreme Council of the Republic of Lithuania, expressing the will of the Nation, decided and solemnly declared that the exercise of the sovereign powers of the Lithuanian state abolished by a foreign force in 1940 was restored and Lithuania became a country again. On the occasion of the anniversary of Lithuania’s liberation from Soviet occupation, the Seimas and throughout Lithuania remotely organize festive events to commemorate the Freedom won. It is about virtual exhibitions, historical knowledge contest, artistic installations, concerts.
Due to the pandemic, some of the events were filmed in advance and the video material is posted on the Seimas YouTube channel, broadcast on the television show “Seimas – Live” and on LRT channels.
On the main day of the celebration, Thursday March 11, flowers were laid at the March 11 monument “Žinia” in Independence Square, Vilnius.
