“Vilnius still does not make sufficient use of its special advantage: the river around which the city grew. Our plans include a vibrant Neris environment, which is not possible without the development of shipping, so we must create the necessary infrastructure, ”said Vilnius Deputy Mayor Tomas Gulbinas.

The draft proposals will be presented to the public once the City Council has approved the project concept. According to them, a consignment inventory warehouse with catering facilities is planned next to the confluence of Vilnius and Neris. The Council will decide at the next meeting if it agrees that after the procedure for publishing project proposals and obtaining approval from the Vilnius City Council and special architectural and heritage protection requirements, the eling will be sold by public auction together with the proposals for project prepared. The contract of sale would establish an obligation for the buyer to carry out the reconstruction of the shed in accordance with the architectural concept foreseen in the design proposals and the specified purpose. A maximum period for the preparation and construction of a construction permit and penalties for breach of the sale contract would also be established.
