The Lithuanian trio claimed their first victory in the 3×3 United League Europa tournament in Russia. Lithuanians in the second group match 21:19 defeated team AS Monaco 3×3.
Our team lost the first match, but after achieving victory they maintained their chances of advancing to the next stage, where two of the three teams in the group will meet.
Now the Lithuanian team (1-1) and Inanomo (1-0) have a victory in the group. Today, Inanomo and AS Monaco 3×3 will still face each other and then it will become clear which two teams will advance to the quarterfinals.
AS Monaco 3×3 had several chances to snatch the victory, but their long throws missed the mark. Then Gintautas Matulis tied the score (19:19), and soon the same basketball player overtook the Lithuanians (20:19).
AS Monaco’s 3×3 attempts to win the match continued unsuccessfully, with Žygimantas Skučas (21:19) shooting from under the basket in the closing seconds.
Matulis scored 7 points, Vytautas Šulskis – 6, Skučas and Dainius Novickas – 4 each.
Novickas replaced Ignas Vaitkus, who was injured on the national team.
“Team LT” in the first match 17:21 lost Inanomo of Moscow.
A total of four United League tournaments will take place in St. Petersburg. In the first three rounds, the teams will score points and the best eight will advance to the final.
Two of them will host a Juventus-based team, and the rest will feature other Lithuanian basketball players, who are among the 12 candidates for Olympic teams.
