We are talking about this with Viktorija Čmilyte-Nielsen.
Today, March 8, how do you celebrate?
For me, March 8 may not be a huge celebration, but it is a reminder of the gender equality that women and men should pursue together.
Your husband is not Lithuanian, is he celebrating March 8 in your family? Do you get flowers?
No, my husband does not give flowers and is very surprised to learn that there is such an important part of the society’s tradition of giving flowers that day. We try to help each other and share responsibilities in the family, which seems like a more valuable gift to me.
Your family is often given as an example: you run Lithuania and your husband takes care of the children at home. Isn’t your husband angry about that?
First of all, we share responsibilities and family. However, since I have a lot of work during the week, a man takes on most of those responsibilities. And when he has to go, I always try to be the person who takes all the responsibility.
