According to the cosmetologist A.Krasnevičienė, beautiful and youthful lips can be kept for a long time. Now there are several measures for this, from helping to maintain the moisture of the skin of the lips, to inflate them, to protect them from the effects of the environment, to micro-interventions. We talked with the cosmetologist about daily lip care, what products to choose, what ingredients to look for in them, in what order to apply them, what is necessary in winter and what in summer, what injections are effective.
– Andrew, let’s start the conversation with how should we take care of our lips every day so that they do not dry out, do not split? You’ll say better, but I suspect we care more about the face, and the lips are often forgotten.
– Our Lithuanian climate zone is very unpleasant for our lips: high humidity and cold on the outside, dry air on the inside. The cold season is just beginning, everyone’s lips are chapped. This indicates that their care is inadequate or that the person does not find the right products for himself.
Ceramic does much of the work, which is why it is important to have this ingredient in lip creams or eye and lip creams.
In my head, daily lip care should be just as important as the eyelids. It should be noted that some eye creams are also designed for lip care. The skin of the lips is different from the whole face, it is the mucous membrane. She is thinner, more sensitive, so she needs special care.
When it comes to products, ceramides do much of the work, which is why it is important to have this ingredient in lip creams or eye and lip creams. Ceramides not only hydrate well, but also inhibit the aging process of the lips, in addition to creating a barrier – protective – function of the skin and preventing the skin from cracking.
The skin on the lips is very good and omega 3, 9. They are extracted from various sources, I really like vegetables: evening primrose, jojoba oil. Helps regenerate cells, hydrates skin.
Well, of course collagen, hyaluron.

– Is there a difference in the order in which lip care products are used? Have you applied a cream once a day and a balm the next time?
– If your lips are very dry, flaky, you must first apply a moisturizer on them. It can be, as I mentioned, an eye cream for lips, a healing cream, and a face cream. And only then apply lip balm to form a film, and inside there would already be a product that heals, moisturizes. Because lip balm is a lipid, it only provides protection, which is why women often complain that it lubricates a lot, but it has no effect.
– Puffiness lip glosses are now very popular. Are they really effective and what components should they contain for that measure to be beneficial?
– I can share my experience on these puffy lip glosses. I started using them myself when I was 23 years old. Then, as soon as I started going to seminars abroad, I had to go to Barcelona very often. There I discovered an American-made puffy lip balm with microcollagen and hyaluronic acid. When applied to the lips, they appeared to have doubled in size (smiling). At that time, it was not cheap, it cost about 37 euros, but it was enough for a year, now serious measures to smell lips cost about 50 euros.
That is why I have been using some microcollagen and elastin foaming agent for many years. Knowing what I have noticed, when you use such products before and do it regularly and for a long time, they really have an effect: the lips become thicker, the product prevents the formation of small wrinkles. Of course, you should not expect to apply such tools to increase the size of your lip, that impression is only momentary.
I’ve found that when you use these tools before and do it for a long time, they really have an effect – your lips get plumper.
There are such means with patented collagen, it is usually of marine origin, its very small molecule goes into deeper layers. It gives volume, has a cooling effect, it seems that those lips really do grow a little bit for a while. Those measures often also have a healing effect: they prevent the formation of fine facial expressions, the lips are less likely to dry out.
Only these strong coolants and humectants should be handled with care during the cold season. Because if it contains less ceramides, there is collagen, hyaluronic acid, the lips can freeze. So in winter, this product should be used at night and during the day to apply a greasy lip balm or paint.
And in the hot season, from now until the cold starts again, these measures are very suitable for use.

– Another very popular lip care and moisturizer is lip masks. What do you think about them?
– The masks are now very fashionable. I don’t think they are bad. Initially, the idea was to use them before applying professional makeup to cover the paint well, the lips would look youthful, plump, because when painting inedible lipstick, it is drier, so the lips should be well groomed. Now those masks are also becoming popular as a treatment when lips are constantly drying out, when the air is dry at home and moisture is felt outside.
– Is it necessary to rub the skin of the lips and what means to choose for it?
– If you are scrubbing, use only a special lip scrub. By no means exfoliating for face, body. If you are not allergic to honey, you can make a honey and oil scrub: add a couple of drops of oil to honey and gently massage your lips. Honey also has granules, it activates blood circulation.
And anyway, there are special very mild lip scrubs that remove that flaky layer. Very often, when the lips are split, dry, people chew, bite, tear their cuticles. The worst thing here is because we are still mechanically breaking them ourselves, and then a vicious cycle begins. There is a scrub designed to remove flaking, dryness, and then if you hydrate well, put on a mask, there will be nothing left to chew on.
– What do you think of a household tool of this type: brushing your lips with a soft toothbrush?
– (You’re laughing). Well, I don’t know if you have a separate toothbrush, not the one you brush your teeth with, and it’s really gentle – it’s the activation of the bloodstream. But frankly, all these measures scare me. Man does not spare himself. Doing so may damage the skin on the lips as the brush may not be soft and smooth enough, or it may press too hard, pazulinsita.
XXI a. It should no longer be a problem to buy a special lip scrub that doesn’t really cost a cow and wear it all year long.
I agree that stimulated lips will look better, they will be more beautiful, plumper, they will have a brighter shade, but how not to bend the bar? I know this method, young people are probably all scared, but it should not be a toothbrush with which you brush your teeth, but a separate product.
But still in the 21st century. It should no longer be a problem to buy a special lip scrub that doesn’t really cost you a cow and wear it all year long.
I have not used lip scrubs myself because there is no such need, but I hear very good feedback from customers who use them: that the lips become soft and with the additional use of lip balm the result is gratifying.
– Now there are many injections to smooth the lips. Do they all help restore lost lip moisture?
– There is a myth that “puffed up” lips do not dry out. This is where two things must be distinguished. If we talk about those swollen lips, they keep drying out because they are stretched. This procedure is called lip contouring and enlargement and it has nothing to do with moisturizing the lips.
But it is true that today there are already such injections, which are designed to moisturize, soften the lips, restore the lip contour. Visually, the volume of the lips does not increase after this procedure, it would even be difficult to tell that someone was injected because that is not the purpose of those injections. Clearly, this procedure is already done by doctors, not estheticians or beauty salons around the corner.
– And does women’s favorite micropigmentation help, damage or not affect the hydration of the lips?
– Micropigmentation dries the skin of the lips a lot, especially the so-called old-fashioned ones. If women are already doing this procedure, I would recommend adding an injection to moisten and soften the lips. If interventional procedures are performed, you need to take a closer look at them and know how to restore what you are violating.
– Well, and in the end, since spring came, not behind the mountains – and summer, how to care for your lips in the warm season of the year?
– In summer, you should choose products that have sun protection (SPF). It depends on where you are and how long you are in the sun, but it is best to choose the tools that have the most protection. Creams with SPF 50 are also suitable for this. There is a novelty of this type: the SPF product, which can also be applied to make-up.
For the summer, my main recommendation is not to burn your lips, because it is the mucosa. The lips are the most sensitive part of the body, so it is necessary to pay attention to their protection.
In my opinion, the best protection is the shade, it is not very difficult in Lithuania. Abroad, if you spend a lot of time in the water, do water sports, or read a book and get highlights, even wearing a hat can burn your lips. Protective measures must also be taken into account on the mountain.
Sometimes I like to scare, but in reality, just burn once and you can see the consequences in ten years. Because the damage has already occurred and we will no longer restore those cells. All other factors also contribute: pregnancy, rhythm of life, stress at work and finally the year, that oxidative stress accumulates and contracts one day.
That is why I always emphasize, both on the face and on the lips, the need for daily care and protection. Injections alone will not fix everything. And for the summer, my main recommendation is not to burn your lips, because it is the mucosa. It must be remembered that the skin of the lips is not the hands, nor the feet, not even the face, which is eroded by both the wind and the sun. The lips are the most sensitive part of the body, so it is necessary to pay attention to their protection.

At the end of the interview, the beautician re-emphasized the main points of daily lip care: they must be hydrated, before applying the lip balm, first apply a moisturizer – cream or scar cream, sunscreen in summer and a greasy texture in winter. .
“And that’s it. This daily care will definitely give results, – said A. Krasnevičienė, adding that in addition to all the aids, it is very important not to forget water: – Drinking water is the simplest and cheapest way to keep the body hydrated, because the lips give away. “
