“Searches were carried out in the city and district of Biržai. More information will be provided on Monday,” Modesta Zdanauskaitė, a spokesperson for the service, told BNS on Saturday.

According to her, a pre-trial investigation is underway for high-value fraud and document falsification.

The documents were seized at the “Žydruva” company, run by Birutė Rinkevičienė, the wife of the former member of the Seimas, the “peasant” Viktoras Rinkevičius.

“Documents reviewed, seized … From what I understand, there is a complaint that is currently being investigated,” a former MP told BNS on Saturday, who also confirmed that he owns shares in the company.

V. Rinkevičius claimed that the FNTT officials had not been detained for questioning.

“It wasn’t, a complete lie,” said the peasant.

However, he said that he interacted with FNTT officials.

A member of the Peasant Party also said that he was not yet considering suspending party membership.

“It just came to our attention then. There is a lot to imagine here … If I felt that I had committed a serious fault, I would do it immediately,” said V. Rinkevičius.

“If the party leadership asks me to suspend membership because of all the anger, I can do it,” he said Saturday morning.

V. Rinkevičius was a member of the Seimas for three terms: 2000-2004, 2004-2008 and 2016-2020. He is currently said to be a farmer.

R. Karbauskis: V. Rinkevičius hinders membership in the “peasants” party

“I was informed that the party member will temporarily suspend his party membership until the investigation is carried out,” party leader Ramūnas Karbauskis told BNS on Saturday.

According to him, V. Rinkevičius cooperates with the police in the investigation.

“I am also informed that the former member of the Seimas is cooperating with the forces of order. Knowing that the accusations against members of our party are rare, and generally not confirmed, I believe that this case may be the same,” said the president of the “peasants.”
