It will start with a car created in Lithuania.
The crew of Vaidotas Paškevičius and Audrius Matuolis will compete in the Phoenix Rally in a Seat Leon Dakar car, which is well known to all Lithuanians. Although this work by Lithuanian designer Darius Biesevičius has raced twice in the Dakar Rally in South America, the sport kilometers in the Sahara desert will be the first on the African continent.
“We had a great adventure and decided to go to the desert, to the Phoenix Rally in Tunisia. This race is a marathon. There will be around a thousand five hundred kilometers in the speed sections so there is a lot of challenge for the car, the mechanics and the whole team. The COVID-19 situation is the most worrying because it is the least predictable. And anyway, we are ready, the car was fully re-elected, so already on Sunday our mechanics moved to Africa, ”said Vaidotas Paškevičius.
Audrius Matuolis, who is temporarily in the helmsman’s position, will read the road book to the Tavisa Racing Team driver Vaidotas Paškevičius in Africa. Kęstutis Jakubianecas remained the team’s main mechanic.
Racing in the desert will be news for the whole team
According to Vaidotas Paškevičius, the idea of traveling to a race in Africa was born after the first stage of this year’s Perimeter was canceled in Lithuania. According to the rider, there was a great period of no competition on the schedule, so the team decided it was time to test their skills on another continent.
“For my co-driver, this type of competition, where there are no trees, there are no forest lines and everywhere only sand and desert, will be the first. As a pilot, I will also have to race in such conditions for the first time, but I have training in UAE, Morocco I have the basics of dune driving, but will also be in combat mode for the first time.
That is why our main goal is to finish. After all, our car is not competitive with Toyota Hilux factory cars. The most important thing will be to gain experience and reach the goal. That is our main plan. We hope to resist both ourselves and the team, ”shared Vaidotas Paškevičius.
