Blinkevičiūtė will participate in the election of the Social Democratic president

He said that there would indeed be a “celebration of democracy” in the Social Democrats, contrary to what the politician pointed out to the conservatives.

“I say this strongly: V. Blinkevičiūtė will participate in the elections of the president of the Social Democratic Party of the Republic of Lithuania. I made this decision because I am convinced that there should be a normal European democratic left party in Lithuania, where everyone should be visible”, said V. Blinkevičiūtė for 15 minutes.

A newcomer to the Facebook network, associate professor at the Vilnius University Institute of International Relations and Political Science (VU TSPMI), also announced on Monday night that he was nominated in the presidential election for discussion.

“The upcoming elections of the chairman of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party provide an opportunity for all party members to jointly assess in which direction we will continue. The party needs a debate. And this debate cannot end among those elected by the Council. I want it not to. miss out on this rare opportunity, which is why I am running, ”wrote L. Gudzinskas.

Several other candidates are proposed for party chairmen: Orinta Leiputė, Mindaugas Sinkevičius and Juozas Olekas MEP, who has already confirmed his participation in the elections.

The nomination of candidates for the presidency of the Social Democratic Party is scheduled for March 28.

At the end of January, Gintautas Paluckas announced his resignation from the post of president of the LSDP after criticism from the parties. The party council then elected the mayor of Jonava M. Sinkevičius as interim president.

He will lead the Social Democrats until a congress on May 29, during which the newly elected party president will be confirmed. M. Sinkevičius himself said that he had no intention of participating in the election of the party president.

The president of the LSDP will be elected directly by the party members, the first round of elections is scheduled for April 22 and 25. The party president is elected for a two-year term.
