According to him, although the incident itself is still being investigated by the State Labor Inspectorate, the State Land Planning and Construction Inspectorate and the Kaunas Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the bridge construction company itself initiated an investigation carried out by two independent expert firms.
According to A. Rusevičius, the part of the investigation related to the technical part of the bridge and possible structural damage has already been completed.
“The researchers carried out an evaluation of the bridge structure and found that the main structures, the floor and the supports, were intact. The experts did not detect displacements or deformations, the building structure corresponds to the calculated design values. After evaluating the condition of the floor and supports, it was stated that the construction of the bridge can continue without redesigning the structures. However, the investigation revealed temporary damage to the traction devices. We will change and reorganize the equipment so that we can renew the construction, ”said the head of Kauno tiltų.
The accident at the Icelandic road construction site occurred on January 27, when the metal structure of the bridge fell, blocking the scaffolding and putting pressure on the men working on it.
According to preliminary data, the metal structure fell due to the failure of another structure that attracted it.
Five employees of the Kauno Tiltai company, which carried out the work, were injured in the incident, one of them died and three were taken to hospital.
The Kleboniškis bridge over Neris is part of the A1 motorway.
