The Department of Homeland Security (SSD) has information that casts doubt on the performance and reliability of Avia Solutions Group. Intelligence has informed decision makers about this.
Added “Company requests SSD to disclose information” section.
So says Darius Jauniškis, director of the SSD.
“We have repeatedly informed decision makers about the company’s activities, we have some information that raises serious doubts about its reliability and performance, I will not name them specifically, because it is confidential information, but all decision makers have this information. During the annual threat presentation at the Seimas, D. Jauniškis answered the question as to why the activities of this company pose a threat to national security.
The company asks the SSD to make the information public
In response to the SSD’s statement, Avia Solutions Group requests the SSD to disclose the information.
“This information is important to the public. We publicly request and consent to release all information available to the SSD about our company,” said Vygaudas Ušackas, a member of the company’s Board.
According to him, development and investment are not possible without clearing up the doubts raised by the SSD.
“That is why we demand the publication of information on the basis of which the activities of the company are blocked and the name of the company is blackened,” said V. Ušackas.
Last week, the government commission that oversees the transactions of strategic companies, which includes representatives from various ministries, law enforcement agencies and intelligence services, proposed blocking Avia Solutions Group’s plans to expand at Vilnius airport due to risks to the National security.
The commission considered the plans of the group managed by businessman Gediminas Žiemelis to expand the existing and operational FL Technics hangar at Vilnius airport, where the planes are maintained and repaired.
Representatives for Avia Solutions Group said they were disappointed with the decision and called it a “witch hunt.”
In recent years, Lithuanian national security authorities have been cautious of Avia Solutions Group’s investments due to its previous operations at Moscow’s Zhukovsky Airport and aviation operations in Russia.
Vygaudas Ušackas, a board member of Avia Solutions Group, said that the reconstruction of the company-run hangar does not pose a threat, and that the group and its shareholder G. Žiemelis sold shares in Moscow’s Zhukovsky Airport a couple of years ago.
