It is suspected that the medical equipment companies may have illegally won the purchases of various Lithuanian medical institutions for more than 3 million. euros.
Commenting on the situation of the heads of medical institutions detained by the STT, Povilas Poderskis, director of the Vilnius municipal administration, stated that there are many suspects in this investigation, and the public procurement in the focus of the investigators is not related to the COVID-19 crisis.
“We will do our best to help officials provide data. While the news is disturbing and sad and reveals systemic problems, I am glad officials have managed to shed light on such a large situation,” he said.
Gotta go on vacation
P. Poderskis stated that after submitting an application to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, Daiva Kanopienė, director of the Šeškinė polyclinic, had been dismissed and Narimantas Markevičius, director of the Vilnius Clinical Hospital, had been able to withdraw.
“It is a case of labor rights and legal rights, if N. Markevičius returns after the holidays, we will still expel him. It is possible to guess that he has started his vacation, unless the suspicions have been eliminated, “Podersky said.
According to the head of the municipal administration, future decisions will be made regarding employees of other institutions whose names appear in the survey.
“The Vilnius City Clinical Hospital is the largest hospital treating coronavirus patients, so additional forces will be applied to it,” he said, adding that the Šeškinė polyclinic is also important in the vaccination process.
The interim managers of both institutions will start working shortly, and P. Poderskis assured that he had no information about the arrests of employees of other medical institutions in the capital.
