“Yesterday we called the hospitals again and checked if they were all there,” P. Poderski said at a press conference Thursday about the directors of medical institutions and private companies detained by STT.

Currently, more than 100 crimes related to corruption are being investigated in ten medical institutions in Lithuania. The complaints were made to the managers of 6 hospitals.

The two hospitals whose directors are being investigated are in Vilnius.

The STT detained Daivas Kanopienė, director of the Šeškin polic Polyclinic, and Narimantas Markevičius, director of the Vilnius Clinical Hospital, due to possible corruption.

According to P. Poderskis, the head of the Šeškinė polyclinic was dismissed at the request of the prosecution. The same was intended to be done in the case of N. Markevičius, director of the Vilnius Clinical Hospital.

“We should also have removed the director of the Vilnius City Clinical Hospital, but he managed to take a vacation. Therefore, it is not necessary to remove him, but such a situation has arisen,” said the director of administration.

N. Markevičius went on vacation early Wednesday morning for a couple of weeks.

According to him, N. Markevičius went on vacation early Wednesday morning for a couple of weeks.

“There is nothing to get him out of, he’s on vacation. Here, in labor law and legal accidents, I understand what it looks like. But if it comes back after the holidays, we’ll still have to get it out the same day, “he said.

Podersky did not rule out that the hospital director could extend his license.

“Unless their suspicions are withdrawn, it is up to the prosecutor’s office, we are not involved in that process, but there may be several ways,” Podersky said.

D. Kanopienė, according to him, was removed indefinitely.

According to the director of administration, decisions regarding the other employees of the mentioned medical institutions should be made by the interim managers of these institutions. P. Poderskis did not specify who these employees are and what their role is in the investigation.

Podersky said at a press conference that public procurement is not related to COVID-19 management measures.

“We hope the investigation is successful,” he hoped. “We will do our best to clarify more details and help officials to cooperate by providing data and all necessary information.”

Won’t the fight against the coronavirus suffer?

According to him, it is very important for the Vilnius City Municipality that the management of COVID-19 in the city does not stop.

“Vilnius City Clinical Hospital is known to be the largest COVID-19 treatment hospital in Lithuania and we must ensure its continuity and improvement of work processes. We will probably add additional capacity there, because the manager would have paid close attention to that issue anyway, ”he said.

The director recalled that the Šeškinė polyclinic, like all the others, is a vaccination institution. It was also intended to be used for vaccination at mobile sites.

“The continuity of this process should also be ensured – an interim leader will be appointed and we hope to continue it in a completely fluid manner,” he said.

Among the suspicions is bribery

The Organized Crime and Corruption Investigation Department prosecutor Žydrūnas Radišauskas announced on Thursday that the pre-trial investigation investigates indications of systemic corruption in medical institutions, starting with acts such as abuse, bribery, influence peddling and bribery.

270 thousand were seized during the search. cash in various currencies.

Law enforcement officials revealed that specific cases of bribery were also recorded.

“Some amounts exceed 10,000. “said Darius Balčiūnas, director of STT’s Central Board of Investigation, adding that cash was being paid as bribes.
