The liver from the same donor will be taken to the Kaunas clinics. They will be transported by ambulance with police escort. According to Kotryna Čaikauskaitė, chief specialist of the Transplant Coordination Division of the National Transplant Office (NTB), it was decided that the heart would fly due to the short time of cardiac ischemia. “We received a message about the donor yesterday at 3:16 pm,” recalled the interlocutor.
The Latvians decided to donate the donor organs because there was no suitable recipient in Latvia. This is the first time that donor organs have been moved from another country. This year, only one organ left Lithuania: the lungs. They are donated to the recipient in Germany. A total of 534 beneficiaries, including children, are waiting for organs and tissues in Lithuania. Corneas especially expected. They are needed by 138 people, including two children. 124 individuals are waiting for hematopoietic stem cells. The five waiters are children. Kidney expects 113 people, including a child.
93 people wait for the liver. Of these, 13 children. 47 people, including three children, need a heart transplant. Eight patients wait for the lungs. Six: pancreatic and renal complex. Five: the cardiac and renal complex. This year, 25 hematopoietic stem cells, fourteen dead donor kidneys, eleven corneas, three liver transplants and one heart transplant have already been performed in Lithuania.
