At a press conference on Wednesday, the Commission for the Prevention of Suicide and Violence released a document calling for “controlling the virus of psychological violence, choosing respect instead of discrimination, empathy instead of discrimination. anger and focus on constructive action and find solutions together. “

“It just came to our notice then. This report from your committee is very important for the whole of Lithuania. My wish is that we also pay attention to the past mistakes that we have made.

In the last legislature, there has been a huge avalanche of harassment from both sides. At the moment, both the president and Toliatas and Tomas Vytautas are under attack (Raskevičius – aut. Past.)“- said Robertas Šarknickas, member of the commission and representative of the Union of Peasants and Greens of Lithuania.

According to Dovilė Šakalienė, the Commission for the Prevention of Suicide and Violence is faced every day with examples where not only physical but also psychological violence leaves people with “scars” in the long term:

“Today I want to invite everyone {…} maybe we can be a safer society. Maybe we could value our fears, our anger that other people do not fit into our desired frames, as an expression of our own insecurity. The only way is talking and finding out. “

Andrius Navickas, chairman of the commission and member of the governing group, explained that the division between the different parties in parliament should be reduced.

“How many nice words have we said in the Union of the Fatherland about the Labor Party, about the peasants? How much did the peasants say about us? Sometimes we have to understand each other, look into each other’s eyes and see a living person, ”said a member of the Seimas.

The document says: “We all want Lithuania to be a prosperous state of happy people. We are trying to find the most reliable and effective ways and means to achieve this. Unfortunately, however, we are increasingly caught up in fights and hatred in the public space is only increasing. One of the main reasons for this is the disregard for the basic hygiene of dialogue. We have learned to stop viruses by washing our hands well, disinfecting them, and using other protective measures if necessary. We are much more negligent in dealing with the virus of aggression, hatred, disrespect, lack of empathy.

We are convinced that clear rules, which are the basis for a genuine hygiene of dialogue, would also help here. We have no doubt that if we change our communication habits, we will discuss in good faith, with an open heart, we will be supportive and empathetic to find the best solution, we will not destroy our opponents, it will be a true advance in all areas of the society “.

Raskevičius: “This is very important to many Lithuanians”

Tomas Vytautas Raskevičius, representative of the Freedom Party and president of the Seimas Human Rights Committee, who has recently received much criticism in the public space, also contributed to the preparation of the document.

Politicians share their offensive and threatening messages on their social media almost daily. The initiative group demanding the removal of TV Raskevičius, which calls itself a “professional homosexual” from the position of chairman of the committee, also sparked much discussion.

The speech of the Seimas Commission for the Prevention of Suicide and Violence affirms that “no member of the Seimas can be persecuted for their political beliefs, religious or sexual orientation. And if that happens, we must unanimously stop this behavior. “

During the press conference, TV Raskevičius thanked his colleagues for their support.

“It is very good for me to be here today because, in addition to the publications and the mandates, I feel that I am next to very good people. Thanks for that.

I thank the Commission for the Prevention of Violence and Suicide for its solidarity. I think what we were able to say today is very important for many people living in Lithuania, very different and different, ”said TV Raskevičius.
