The offender has been declared administratively responsible and the environmental damage has been calculated. The Lithuanian police were also informed about the incident.
Environmentalists explained that the person was driving an amphibian caterpillar in the Vilnius River Protection Zone and Zone, through wild herbaceous vegetation, and was swimming in the Vilnius River Protected Area in the Vilnius Hydrographic Reserve.
Three complaints of administrative infraction were drawn up for the driver of the vehicle. Violation of the water protection requirements is punishable by a fine of 450 to 850 euros. Violation of the environmental conditions for navigation in bodies of water will also result in a fine of between 450 and 850 euros.
In addition, the violation of the areas specified in the Law of Conditions of Land Use, where special conditions of land use apply, carries a fine of 150 to 400 euros.
And for the destruction of wild herbaceous vegetation, the damage caused to the environment will be calculated.
Vilnius district environmentalists informed the Lithuanian police about violations of the requirements for participation of the Vehicle in public traffic and about the possible lack of a driver’s license for said vehicle.
“We want to thank the citizens who record environmental violations with video cameras, communication devices, etc. In such cases, it is easier for officials to identify the perpetrators of administrative offenses, ”says Žydrė Majauskaitė, Head of the Vilnius District Environmental Protection Inspectorate.
