According to the forestry technician, the devastating force that took place last Monday in Klevinė took just a minute and a half to knock down an entire area of trees. According to V.Misiūnas, some of them destroyed the property of people living in the countries. Trees fell on the roofs of houses, on cars.

It is true that storms no longer surprise the forester. It became part of the job.
“Of course, it’s not fun to see such a picture, but, of course, foresters see it that way more than once in our careers, not twice as impactful as the residents.” We just look at what to do next. The reaction can be moderate and prospective. ” 15 minutes V.Misiūnas said.
According to him, it will now be necessary to assess exactly where the forest is cut, inspect the surroundings in detail to see if there are more trees. The area will then be entrusted to specialists who will remove the broken and lying trees. After that, clear sanitary deforestation will take place throughout this area. All of this should take about a month.
According to V.Misiūnas, the forest will be replanted next spring.

And how will the trees knocked down by the storm be used? According to the forestry engineer, its industrial value is now significantly reduced.
“Windbreak trees are no longer suitable for cutting boards, because the wood breaks and when the boards are cut from such a broken log, they simply collapse. (…) Most of the way will probably be used for the production of panels, biofuels, firewood, “he says.
The ecosystem of the area will change
According to V.Misiūnas, the storm brought long-term consequences to this area. One of them is that the forest ecosystem will inevitably change, because the animals that have their habitats here will now have to look elsewhere. And with the recently replanted forest, better conditions can be found for previously uninhabited animals.
According to the forestry engineer, the good news is that the birds’ migration has already been completed, so it is likely that no further damage has been caused to them. V.Misiūnas points out that we probably won’t find any injured animals under the trees.
“It is a very interesting thing, even during very large storms, where much larger areas were translated, and I have heard from colleagues, from my acquaintances, that no one has found that the tree fell on at least one animal.” Apparently, they manage to feel the imminent danger and manage to leave, ”says the ranger.
