As the politician writes on Facebook, the upcoming election of the chairman of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party provides an opportunity for all party members to jointly assess which way to go next. The party, he said, needs a debate.
L. Gudžinskas further states: “The victories of the previous party were forged on the basis of the vertical of power, in the foreground of which was the first president of Lithuania restored, later, his memory. However, the second consecutive elections to Seimas showed that times have changed. We need both new people and a new approach. It wouldn’t be worth climbing the same top control rake a third time.
You need to significantly broaden your horizons, ranks of supporters, and circle of decision makers. For this to be a reality, we need to make three fundamental changes in two years. If I am elected, I will dedicate all my strength and my mind to its fulfillment, so that before the next elections to the Seimas we will be a real force that expresses the will of the people ”.

“First – Equal rights for all party members.
There can be no friends more equal than others. Each party member must have the right to vote to rank candidates on the lists of the Seimas, the European Parliament and the local government. The sponsoring institute of the party must be legalized. The sponsors will have the right to run in the election of the party president and the presidential candidate. It will be determined in which cases the general referendums of the party are mandatory. Management structures will be simplified. The membership fee, which is now unjustifiably inflated and demoralizing, will be significantly reduced.
Second: broader and broader considerations
The current structure of the committees, on the basis of which party policy is formed, is exhausted. Little participation of friends from outside the capital and external experts. Therefore, we will expand the deliberative polls of party members and supporters. During them, the interviewees will have the opportunity to get acquainted in detail with the current situation and discuss it among themselves. We will test the instruments of democracy in question at the local level and, following Ireland’s example, we will initiate amendments to the Constitution establishing a Citizens’ Assembly.
Third, more socialism
The income of the Ori people and the strong rights of the workers must be the engine of our party policy. We will start discussions on the possibilities of implementing universal basic income, economic democracy and other ideas of modern socialism. To this end, we will create a party analysis center (think-tank), and every February 16-17. “Taking note of the contribution of leading Lithuanian socialists and socialists to the creation of Lithuania and defending its freedom, we will organize a festival of left-wing ideas,” he says.
L.Gudžinskas, who is preparing to compete for the position of leader of the party, also presented his team.
15 minutes recalls that after the leadership of former party leader Gintautas Paluckas left the leadership positions, the Social Democrats are temporarily led by the mayor of Jonava, Mindaugas Sinkevičius. The new LSDP president is scheduled to be elected on May 29. at the next convention.
