Environmentalists have captured amateur fishermen: they will have to compensate for the damage to nature.

2021 February 27 Vilnius GGAI officials carried out the control of recreational fishing in Vilnius and Svencionys d. sav. During the raid, 87 amateur fishermen were inspected and 7 violations were identified.

At Lake Pravalo (Vilnius District Municipality), two people were ice fishing without amateur fishing tickets, one of them had no quills. They are warned for these violations.

Three people fished in Lake Ilgis (Švenčionys district municipality), where there is limited fishing, without an amateur fisher card giving them the right to fish in that body of water. For fishing without an amateur fisherman’s license, these people face fines of 90 to 170 euros.

Two more people were arrested fishing in the Girutiškis Nature Reserve (Švenčionys District Municipality). They face fines of between € 120 and € 300 for fishing in a closed area and must confiscate 2 winter fishing gear. Violators must also compensate EUR 93.6 for damage to nature for perch (2.08 kg) caught in the reserve.

Vilnius GGAI recalls that as of February 1. until April 20. The Pike 2021 campaign is underway, so environmental officials are carrying out more scrutiny of recreational fishing on both weekends and holidays.

We also note that as of January 1st. until April 20. Bait fishing with fish is prohibited and as of February 1. until April 20. it is forbidden to fish for pike.

Illegal fishing for pike is punishable by fines ranging from 120 to 300 euros with the confiscation of the tools and instruments of the offense, as well as compensation for damage to fish stocks: 240 euros for each pike caught during the closure.
