President Vladimir Putin’s best-known opponent was sentenced this month to two and a half years in prison in a correctional colony for parole violations while being treated in Germany after a poisoning attack.
His colleagues did not know where he was for several days, and on Friday, the director of the Federal Prison Service said Navaln had been sent from a Moscow detention center to a correctional colony and did not provide further details.
Over the weekend reports appeared in the local media that, based on unidentified sources, wrote about the possible whereabouts of A. Navalnas.

However, the Moscow Public Commission issued a statement on Sunday stating that Navaln was in the Federal Penitentiary Service in the Vladimir region.
“We have 100 percent. Accurate information that A. Navaln was taken to the Vladimir region to serve his sentence. He will first be quarantined and then transferred to a colony,” Alexei Melnikov, executive secretary of the commission, told Interfax .
The opposition was treated in Germany for several months for poisoning with the nerve paralyzing substance Novičiok. Russian authorities deny having contributed in any way to the August incident.
A wave of mass protests erupted in the country after law enforcement detained an opposition leader who had just returned to Moscow in mid-January.
Western leaders condemned his arrest and called for his immediate release.
Meanwhile, the European Union agreed to impose sanctions on four high-ranking Russian officials for their crackdown on protesters.
