Lietkabelis (6/14) basketball players led by Nenad Chanak after a real thriller 80:77 (21:17, 19:20, 17:24, 23:16) beat Pasvalys’ Milk Stars (8/12).
In the mutual team series, the Lietkabelis team earned the third victory and this season they remain undefeated for the Milk Stars team.
The match started with a 14: 3 streak by Panevėžys guests, to which the Pasvalys coach was forced to react with a minute break. It was after a minute break that Pieno Žvaigždės played 14: 7 and after the first quarter the teams only got 4 points (21:17).
The second part of the game started with enormous defensive intensity, which did not allow any team to gain a greater advantage. The hosts started the third half more aggressively and went ahead for the first time in this match (47:49). G. Petrauskas’s students managed to keep this small advantage and double it, and after three quarters, the Pasvalys went ahead with the result 57:61.
The last quarter of the match was extremely stubborn and changeable. Kyle Vinales took the initiative and put Panevėžys ahead (77:75), but Tomas Lekūnas’ two exact points equalized the result – 77:77. When it seemed that the game was going to go into extra time, K. Viñales himself said the decisive word and with a distant shot from the board just before the sirens sounded a fantastic victory.
K. Vinalesas was the most productive player on the Panevėžys team. The hero of the match scored 17 points. He was perfectly assisted by Gabrielius Maldūnas. On the Panevėžys account, a double-double – 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Tomas Lekūnas stood out on the “Milk Stars” team, which scored 18 points. Branko Mirkovičius added 15 points.
George Gagičius, who was out of place for a couple of weeks, was unable to help the Lietkabelis team due to injury, and the Milk Stars performed without Paulius Petrilevičius.
