– How did you find yourself in what seems to be the most exotic corner of Europe?
– You could say without meaning to. While studying at the university, I decided to take advantage of a student exchange program. I dreamed of going out where the sun and heat roll on the ground. I have heard that in Spain students have a hard time because they learn in Spanish.
In neighboring Portugal, the studies were conducted in English, but there were no longer any places in the continent’s universities. It was only the first year that the Vilnius Gediminas Technical University had signed an agreement with the University of the Azores. Few had heard of him. It was then that I found out about the existence of these islands.
I never planned to live outside of Lithuania, but even more so on the island. I would say otherwise. When I first came here in 2009, I thought that I really couldn’t live permanently surrounded by that unfathomable view of the Atlantic Ocean, and it would only last a short period of life. However, at the end of the fourth year, I returned to the Azores to write my thesis and after studying I got a job in another program. There was still a chance to stay.
– Who retired the most to the Azores?
– The expression “quality of life” in this strip of Europe is taking on a real meaning. Living on the island of São Miguel, almost 87 times smaller than Lithuania (its size is 750 square kilometers), it is very easy to find time and place to relax.
