The Klaipėda County Police Chief Commissariat’s Organized Crime Investigation Board of the Criminal Police (VPK KPONTV) continues the pre-trial investigation into the internationally operating organized crime group (NGO).
The NGO operated in several states, so the investigation was conducted by port city officials in cooperation with foreign law enforcement agencies. Investigators found that members of the group were smuggling narcotic and psychotropic substances into the Republic of Lithuania in very large quantities, distributing them in Lithuania and transporting them to other countries according to orders.
The 1973 Klaipėda resident crime organizer is suspected of disguising drug smuggling as an individual activity of international freight and passenger transport by minibus.
In cooperation with Finnish law enforcement, he and his accomplice were arrested in Helsinki in 2018. May. Lithuanian and Finnish citizens living abroad were also arrested.
During the general operation, during the search in Finland some 6 kg of amphetamine and more than 12,000 tablets with psychotropic drugs were found.
Unaware of the arrest of accomplices in Finland, other members of the group continued with the planned crimes. The NGO is suspected of organizing a smuggling of a large quantity of drugs to Lithuania. The day after the detainees were detained in Finland, Klaipeda KPONTV officers detained their cousins in Kaunas.
During the search, more than 53 kg of cannabis resin, about 6 kg of cannabis and about 3.3 kg of ecstasy tablets were seized. In Lithuania, the “street” price of drugs extracted from illegal circulation can reach 650,000 euros. A stolen motorcycle, a homemade firearm, a pneumatic rifle, a fake driver’s license, tools and instruments for packing drugs and other evidence were also found in the UK.
2019 May. Part of the pre-trial investigation conducted by the port city officials with the indictment was turned over to the court – allegations of drug smuggling and illegal possession of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in very large quantities were filed against three people in an organized group.
2019 December. According to the ruling of the Kaunas Regional Court, two defendants were sentenced to the respective sentences of 4 years. and 4 m. 6 months custodial sentences. 2020 March. According to the verdict of the Lithuanian Court of Appeal, the third culprit was sentenced to 12 years. 9 months in prison. The assets of the accused were also confiscated, and their property rights were restricted.

The suspect was sentenced to three months in detention.
The pre-trial investigation is organized and led by the Organized Crime and Corruption Investigation Division of the Klaipėda Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
Smuggling of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances is punishable by imprisonment of 3 to 10 years.
The illegal possession of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances in large quantities is punishable by imprisonment of 10 to 15 years.
In accordance with article 31 of the Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania, a person shall be presumed innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the procedure established by law and recognized as a valid judicial sentence.
