A. Maldeikienė turned to A. Tololia, who posted his messages: he was exclusively interested in the issues of receiving and absorbing European funds.

Last week, a heated debate broke out on social media about the ratification of the Istanbul Convention in Lithuania. Although the Lithuanian Episcopal Conference (LVK) spoke on this issue in 2018, after the resumption of discussions, several Catholic clergy decided to express their position in the public space.

One of them is the popular priest and author of the books A. Toliat. In his account, he shared the invitation received from Lina Šulcienė to sign a petition to prevent Lithuania from ratifying the Istanbul Convention. This sparked a wave of reactions. The priest accused of politicking said he did not do so, but simply invited the faithful to the discussion.

Soon after, he received a wave of personal messages from A. Maldeikienė. They wrote that a letter shared by the priest wrote nonsense about the Istanbul Convention, accusing the cleric of engaging in religious pop, self-esteem and spreading hatred.

“I do not like to share advice, I have no right to do so, but do not crush our God with sweetened books covered in your syrup,” concluded the MEP with a long chain of messages to the priest.

I am probably referring to the books written by A. Tololia, of which the priest has published many. Most of them became bestsellers.

Shortly after, A. Maldeikienė received a reply message from A. Tololia.

“Dear Dawn. I fully understand his absence, whether as a fighter against violence, as a believer, or as a politician, as a politician. If you want to give your opinion, say so publicly. I’ll help you, “replied the clergyman, posting his messages.

A few hours later, A. Maldeikienė circulated a public response to A. Tololia, in which she shared the Pope’s invitation to pray for women who suffer violence and explained that she is a practicing Catholic.

The politician did not forget to sting A. Tololia.

“As soon as I became a Member of the European Parliament, I received an invitation from A. Tololia. I went to the meeting with my assistants Ugne and Giedrius. As it turned out later, the talk is not really about morality and faith (which are interesting and very important to me).

The priest was exclusively interested in receiving and absorbing European funds. Well here I am not very strong, and I am not a politician, it is a job to share money, apparently it is A. Toliat realized that I would benefit from zero. And he was no longer interested in me “, – A. Maldeikienė began recording on his Facebook account.

15 minutes contacting the clergyman, he declared that he would not comment on the politician’s words.

“That there is nothing to say, everything is written by her,” replied the parish priest in a brief message.
