On the last day in the Klaipėda district, Priekulė Elderhood, near the town of Kairiai on the Curonian Lagoon, a man broke in. When the fishermen heard his cry for help, they called the fire brigade.
Four firefighters from the Klaipėda Fire and Rescue Board rushed to rescue the disaster. On the ice of the Curonian lagoon, they had to run and push 2 life rafts for a kilometer and a half. The beak helped the man stay afloat for 40 minutes.
In the Klaipėda district, rescuers had to travel about 1.5 kilometers to the drowning ice. Just one pick helped the fisherman survive for 40 minutes.
When firefighters approached the intruder, the ice broke under his feet. By the time it is harvested, it is full of open dams.
Firefighters pulled the broken man out of the water by hand and onto the sleds. They brought him safely to shore and handed him over to the doctors. The man was conscious but severely frozen.
It is possible to break not only in the Curonian lagoon, but also in rivers, lakes or ponds.
“The river ice is no longer safe at the moment. We monitored it in Šventoji yesterday. Many places in the river are filled with ice from water, it has already melted considerably. Although I have not rescued those who have broken into the river yet. This year, I have seen a man marching down the river. It is a pity that many do not realize that such a walk is disastrous, because it is almost impossible to save a person who has broken into a river. When it breaks, it found under the ice quite quickly. The feet on the river ice show that people do not value their lives at all, “said Dainius Vyšniauskas, director of the Ukmergė Fire and Rescue Board, as quoted in the PAGD report .
Although the lakes are still melted by ice, they can already be broken. “Many lakes are still covered in thick ice, but where the water flows in or out, those places can already be dangerous. Also, the lakes are now rich in fishing grounds. When it rains, they increase, so we must act very safely ”, says Eugenijus Andrejevas, head of the Zarasai Fire and Rescue Service.
In February, firefighters rescued four hacked people. During this month 19 rescue operations were carried out in the water. He drowned during them.
