The National Land Service will transfer up to 929 forest land to the Vilnius City Municipality under the right of trust. The forest parcels will be transferred to the municipality for the performance of the state function: maintenance, storage and management.
It is planned to transfer the land parcels planned by the Government Resolution currently being prepared on the transfer of state forest land parcels for their management, use and disposal to the Vilnius City Municipality.
The National Land Service evaluated the draft Government Resolution and approved in principle that 929 forest parcels would be transferred to the Vilnius City Municipality.
The planned forest plots are located throughout the Vilnius territory. These include the forests surrounding Antakalnis, including Valakampius, and the forests of Žvėrynas, Verkiai, Pavilnis or other parts of the city. An important part of these forests is found in protected areas: regional parks or reserves of Pavilniai and Verkiai. Some of the transferred forest parcels are within the boundaries of forest parks: these are the Jamantas park in Baltupiai, the Lūžių park in Viršuliškės, etc.
Forests cover more than a third of the entire territory of the Lithuanian capital, which is why Vilnius is deservedly called a green city.
After the Government adopts the resolution “On the Transfer of State Forest Land for Management, Use and Disposal to the Municipality of Vilnius City”, the National Land Service will transfer the forest land provided for in the Government project to the Municipality for its management, use and disposal. for trust. The municipality will be able to freely implement the state function specified in paragraph 51 of article 5 of the Law on Forests of the Republic of Lithuania, that is, to supervise, protect and manage the parcels of state forest land transferred to it for public recreation and recreation by the right to trust.
