R. Karbauskis is concerned that, according to him, the initiative of the conservatives to change the established order of representation of the EVS currently poses a risk of distorting the current balance of power in Lithuanian political life.
According to El Campesino, if the conservative-dominated government had the opportunity to be represented in the EVS, the current power of the ruling majority would become inadequate to its actual dimensions.
“In this situation, when we see how weak the ruling majority is, how tough they are doing it, how the mood of the people is changing for the worse, it is very important to maintain the widest possible division of power. We cannot afford to find ourselves in a situation in which a minority, and this can happen, will have absolute power and all influence in their hands, ”R. Karbauskis told Eltai.
“I say this because they have a very small majority in the Seimas. And we still hear various rumors that those in power will soon become a minority. So, the countless majority are trying to assume an infinite amount of power. Therefore It is simply inadequate, “reasoned R. Karbauskis and assured that without the slightest doubt” the peasants “will support the position of G. Nausėda.
According to the politician announced as prime minister in the shadow of the “peasants”, only for the sake of stability and security in the country, representation in the EVS should remain the prerogative of the president.
“I can clearly say that we will support the president’s position in this situation in any case. We will definitely side with the president. We will not hesitate for a second,” said R. Karbauskis.
R. Karbauskis did not exaggerate the fact that former Prime Minister Saulius Skevernelis, who topped the list of “peasants” in the last Seimas elections, takes a different position and publicly states that it is necessary to delegate the functions of representation to the EVS. to the government. According to the leader of the “peasants”, this is only the opinion of S. Skvernel as a former prime minister. Meanwhile, the LVŽS faction in the Seimas – R. Karbauskis does not even hesitate – will support his position on EVS.
“Saul says what he thinks personally. I understand that you speak like a former prime minister. You think it would be more useful in this situation. But that’s your personal belief. If we were talking about the green peasant faction and its majority, I wouldn’t really think about it, ”said the former Seimas member.
Finally, the politician did not doubt that the conservatives would continue to pressure the president even more to hand over his current representation of the EVS to the Government. According to R. Karbauskis, only the question remains unanswered as to whether G. Nausėda will resist.
“I do not know the ways in which they pressured the president … Maybe they blackmail him, maybe the president resigns … The talks on interpellations are spreading,” he said.
“I understand that the president is in a very difficult situation, because there is a lot of pressure from him, both in the advisory body and from external authorities. I don’t really envy the president, ”summarized R. Karbauskis with pessimistic expectations.
Recently, the question of whether the President should continue to represent the EVS has sparked considerable debate between the Presidency and some Conservative representatives. The latter argue that the Prime Minister should go to the EVS because, according to them, it addresses issues that are more the prerogative of the Government.
On Wednesday, I. Šimonytė stated that he had discussed the issue of greater representation in EVS with the president on Monday. According to the politician, it would be possible to return to the system in Lithuania, when the top managers shared the functions of representation in the EVS.
The Presidency, for its part, does not agree with the position expressed by the Prime Minister. According to Asta Skaisgirytė, the president’s senior adviser, President G. Nausėda does not agree to change the established EVS system of representation.
Not only that, emphasizes the adviser, the recent question of whether the prime minister should not assume the functions of representation in the president’s EVS is imposed and simply inappropriate in the context of a crisis caused by a pandemic.
